You’ve seen the horrific headlines. According to the Washington Post, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the killing of survivors in a September 2 U.S. attack on a boat in the Caribbean. Many authorities, including former JAG (judge advocate general) officers, say that this “double tap” strike could amount to murder.
Since that initial strike in early September, U.S. forces have been bombing and sinking boats in the Caribbean, killing more than 80 people in the process. The Trump regime claims without evidence that victims of the strikes were engaged in drug smuggling. Even if that claim were true, the indiscriminate killing of these people would arguably constitute a war crime.
This past weekend, the chairmen and ranking members of both the House and Senate Armed Services Committees said that they are demanding answers from the Department of Defense. Even some Republican members of Congress are beginning to recognize that the September attack on shipwreck survivors is indefensible.
Let’s tell our senators and our representative that we want them to press loudly for a full investigation of both the September 2 incident and the broader campaign of what appears to be murder on the high seas. We need a full accounting of the regime’s campaign of extrajudicial killings in the Caribbean.

For most of us, that’s Sam Liccardo. If you are not sure who your U.S. representative is, go here.
