Make Your Calls

call to action for July 9, 2025

Background

S.B. 690 is a corporate cover-up. Tell California lawmakers to reject it.  If passed it would:

  • Legalize corporate interception of real-time communications, location data, and device activity without consent
  • Allow companies to use invasive tools like wiretaps, pen registers, and trap-and-trace devices for any “commercial business purpose”
  • Remove accountability by eliminating your right to sue under California’s Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA)
  • Create new risks for immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, abortion seekers, and protesters

It has passed the Senate but we can still block it in the Assembly.

Sample Script

Hi, I'm a constituent from [your zip code]. My name is [your full name].

I’m urging you to vote NO on S.B. 690—a dangerous rollback of California’s privacy protections that would legalize unchecked corporate surveillance.

S.B. 690 would gut the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), giving companies broad immunity to intercept, record, and track users’ sensitive data without notice or consent.

California should lead on privacy, not undermine it. I urge you to stand up for your constituents and reject this corporate power grab. Please vote NO on S.B. 690.

NOTE: If you leave a voicemail, please leave your full street address to ensure that your call is tallied.
