Make Your Calls

call to action for june 2, 2025

Background

The main story in Congress continues to focus on House Republicans’s big, ugly reconciliation bill, which now awaits action by the Senate. If passed in anything like its current form, the bill would land a devastating blow against a wide range of crucial services—and essential values—that matter deeply to Americans everywhere. We must urge our senators to stand firm against the bill.

And, closer to home, we want to urge local elected officials to participate in our “We the People” Democracy Fair on June 14. Please call your state senator, state assemblymember, or city council member and ask them to participate in “open air office hours” where they can meet with their constituents.

Call Your Senators

Alex Padilla | 202-224-3553 (DC) or 415-981-9369 (local)

Adam Schiff | 202-224-3841 (DC) or 415-393-0707 (local)

Hi, I'm a constituent from [your zip code]. My name is [your full name].

Republicans are trying to pass an unpopular and cruel bill that will take food from the mouths of hungry children, rob 14 million Americans of their healthcare, and blow up our deficit. It’s outrageous.

I fully and unequivocally oppose everything in the Republicans’ death bill.Yes, it’s nothing less than a death bill.I oppose the cuts to clean energy tax credits, to SNAP and Medicaid, to taxes on gun silencers, to healthcare for transgender people, and to Planned Parenthood. I  oppose the provision that makes it nearly impossible for federal judges to hold anyone in contempt. I oppose the provision that deregulates AI for 10 years. Doing all of this to pay for tax cuts for people and corporations that already pay too few taxes? You’ve got to be kidding me!

Can I count on Senator [name] to do everything in his power to stop this death bill?

If you live in Palo Alto, go here to find contact information for members of the City Council

My name is [your full name] and I’m a constituent in [city name]..

I’m reaching out to invite you to our “We the People” Democracy Fair on June 14 at Rinconada Park. The Democracy Fair is part of a nationwide mobilization against Donald Trump’s unconstitutional power grab. Across the country, it is known as No Kings Day. Here in Palo Alto, we will protest autocracy by celebrating democracy — first with a parade that includes no tanks and not tyrants; and then with a fair where we will exercise our rights as democratic citizens.

I invite you to march with us in the parade at 2 p.m. and to participate in the Democracy Fair, which starts at 3 p.m.at Rinconada Park. We’re especially eager for you to join us by holding “open air office hours” for constituents during the fair. We will provide a table and chairs, and help facilitate small groups of constituents to meet with you and discuss their concerns and priorities.

Please join us!
