Make Your Calls

call to action for May 26, 2025

Background

Now that Republicans in the House have passed their massive—and dangerous—budget bill, we need to take action to stop the bill in the Senate. For our Democratic senators, that means not just voting against the bill but also using every possible measure to keep the bill from coming to a vote.

In the House, meanwhile, our representatives can raise their voices to stop the ongoing MAGA rampage against our health and safety. Ask your representative to push the FDA and the CDC to do their jobs.

And for extra credit, please urge your member in the State Assembly to defend solar access in California by voting NO on AB 942.

NOTE: Because it’s Memorial Day, offices will be closed—but you can still leave a voicemail! Just be sure to call Senator Padilla’s district office; his DC line doesn’t accept messages.

Call Your Senators

Alex Padilla | 202-224-3553 (DC) or 415-981-9369 (local)

Adam Schiff | 202-224-3841 (DC) or 415-393-0707 (local)

Hi, I'm a constituent from [your zip code]. My name is [your full name].

House Republicans just passed their big, ugly budget bill, and it’s a bill that will actually kill us. I want Senator [name] to stand up, speak out, and bring all Senate business to a grinding halt. This bill cannot move forward in any way. Democrats need to deny all calls for unanimous consent, even for mundane business like adjournment and journal approval. Use every tactic—every parliamentary procedure—to stop this Republican assault on the American people. Thanks.

Call Your Representative

For most of us, that’s Sam Liccardo. If you are not sure who your U.S. representative is, go here.

Sam Liccardo | 202-225-8104 (DC) or (408-245-2339 (local)

Hi, I'm a constituent from [your zip code]. My name is [your full name].

I'm calling to demand that Representative [name] speak out against the FDA’s decision to limit COVID vaccines to people over age 65. The FDA should follow the science, but instead it’s playing games with the health and safety of the American public.

Also, I recently learned that since March the CDC has completely stopped communicating with the public through newsletters, alerts, and social media channels. Meanwhile, at least three major disease outbreaks are happening right now. Our public health system is under attack, and I’m scared. People are going to die. Americans expect the government to provide information about threats our health. Please ask Representative [name] to push the CDC to do its job of communicating with the public. Thanks.

Call Your Assemblymember

For many of us, that’s Mark Berman, who represents District 23, If you are not sure who your U.S. representative is, go here.

Marc Berman | 916-319-2023 or 650-324-0224

Hi, my name is [your full name], and I’m a constituent from [your city or zip code].

I’m calling to urge Assemblymember [name] to vote NO on AB 942. This bill would make solar energy less accessible and less affordable—especially for renters and working families—by driving up the cost of housing that uses solar. That’s a step in the wrong direction. California should be expanding access to clean, renewable energy, not making it harder to adopt.

Californians overwhelmingly support solar energy. AB 942 goes against our climate goals and penalizes communities trying to do the right thing. Please stand with climate-conscious constituents and vote NO on AB 942. Thank you for your time, and for your leadership.
