It’s happening now, and it’s horrifying: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is spending millions on warehouses that they plan to repurpose as ICE detention centers. Some of these facilities, called "megacenters," are designed to hold up to 10,000 people.
Using $38 billion from last year's big ugly budget bill, DHS has already purchased warehouses in multiple states---often without notifying local officials. Such warehouses are difficult to ventilate properly, were not built to house thousands of people, and are likely to create conditions for the rapid spread of disease.
The floor plan for a megacenter in Social Circle, Georgia, shows thousands of detainees packed into tightly crammed pods across a space the size of 20 football fields. It has just one emergency exit route. The city manager of Social Circle warns that the facility will double the town's population, overwhelming its water and sewage systems.
Across the country, people are fighting back against plans to build these concentration camps. And they’re winning—even in deep red districts. We need to keep up the pressure on all fronts to stop the Trump regime’s mass detention drive.
Let’s call our members of Congress now and urge them to do everything in their power—including standing firm on the DHS funding bill— to block the mass warehousing of human beings.

Hi, I'm a constituent from [your zip code]. My name is [your full name].
I am calling today to ask that Senator [Name] publicly use every tool at his disposal to oppose any proposed expansion of DHS detention facilities around the country.
We cannot accept this horrifying buildout of a nationwide network of concentration camps. The proposed facilities are well documented as subjecting people to dangerous and dehumanizing conditions. Immigrants are important members of our communities, and we cannot allow them to be imprisoned in warehouses designed to hold products, not people.
I urge Senator [Name] to do everything in his power—including standing firm on the DHS funding bill—to stop expansion of Trump’s mass detention agenda.
Thank you for your time and attention.
For most of us, that’s Sam Liccardo. If you are not sure who your U.S. representative is, go here.
