RearView Resistance

Our mission is to encourage our fellow citizens to vote early and to share messaging about why early voting is important. To advance this mission, we help people use their own car windows as a messaging canvas. 

RearView Resistance creates mobile billboards—one car at a time. 

To help spread the Vote Early message—and to connect people with information on why early voting matters—we registered short URLs to paint on your car: VoteEarlyCA.com and WhyVoteEarly.com. These URLs redirect to a nonpartisan voter information site with links to early voting information and resources.

Step 1: Wash your car. Clean windows are needed for paint pens to work well.

Step 2: Decide on a vote-centric message—and on where you would like to place it, given your visibility preferences.

Step 3: Write your message with a erasable-ink paint pen designed for drawing on car windows.

Step 4: Embellish your message with stars, dots, hearts, flowers, or other eye-catching images—such as a ballot box!

Step 5:Admire your car. Take a pic and post it on social media channels of your choice. (Remember to blur or crop out your license plate.)

Step 6: SHOW OFF! Drive around proudly in your newly minted “Vote Early” mobile billboard! Park it with pride wherever you go! 

• Erasable chalk paint marker pens, suitable for using on glass
• Several microfiber cleaning cloths, along with glass cleaner or water (to erase or tidy up any mistakes)
• A step stool (for reaching the top of windows on tall cars)

• Park your car in the shade when you paint it. Sun makes pens dry up quickly, and it becomes difficult to write a car with a hot exterior.
• Prepare new pens for use before you start painting your car.
• Never paint on the driver-side or passenger-side front window or on the front windshield.
• Rear window and side window vary in size from car to car—adjust your design accordingly.
• When you write a URL on a car window, be sure to draw attention to each word by using different colors—as shown below.
